Support us
As a community sporting club, Wellington Rowing Club is reliant on the support of its rowers, their families, former rowers and the broader community to make rowing accessible to as broad a range of people as possible.
Our goals
Our fundraising activities are organised around four goals:
Rowing for all: To make rowing accessible to all, regardless of their financial circumstances.
A place for all: To protect and preserve one of Wellington’s historic waterfront buildings, and ensure it is suitable for the club’s activities.
Success for all: To enable our rowers to achieve success – however they define that – by investing in equipment, coaching and rowing experiences.
A legacy for all: To lay the financial foundations for future generations of Wellington rowers by establishing a Wellington Rowing Club Foundation.
Donations
We are grateful for donations of any size and frequency. If you donate more than $500 in a calendar year, we will inscribe your name on a commemorative oar, which will be hung in the Function Room, and record your donation on our website. Please let us know if you would like to remain anonymous.
If you would like to support rowers who face difficult financial circumstances, we have a Scholarship Fund specifically dedicated to helping these individuals cover their membership fees.
If you would like your donation to go towards a different purpose, please discuss this with our Fundraising Officer. Otherwise, we will ensure your donation is put towards a good purpose, in keeping with one of our four fundraising goals.
Donors in New Zealand can claim a tax credit of 33% on cash donations of more than $5.
Bequests
Leaving a bequest in your will to Wellington Rowing Club is an invaluable way to demonstrate your lasting support of the club.
We are deeply grateful for all bequests and would appreciate the chance to discuss your wishes in advance of the bequest being made, to ensure it is put to the best use. We do of course understand if you would prefer not to discuss this with us in advance.
Bequests can take various forms – items in your collection, one-off cash donations, or residual donations. We strongly recommend you discuss these options and tax implications for your estate with a lawyer before making a bequest.
We would like to honour these bequests with public recognition in the form of commemorative plaques, or other suitable acknowledgements. Please contact the Fundraising Officer to discuss these options.
Sponsorships
We are always keen to work with organisations and businesses who share our fundraising goals.
The most appropriate form of sponsorship is usually a cash contribution towards the club’s operational or capital expenditure. However, there may be appropriate in-kind sponsorships as well.
We acknowledge our sponsors on our website, in our monthly e-newsletters to our members, at events like regattas, prizegivings, and quiz nights, and on our physical assets such as our boats, boat trailer and truck, and marquees.
If you are interested in sponsoring Wellington Rowing Club, please contact the Fundraising Officer in the first instance.
