Welcome to
Wellington Rowing Club

Established in 1885 and located on the Wellington city waterfront, Wellington Rowing Club is one of the major rowing clubs in the lower North Island.

The club has produced numerous national representatives over the years, and is highly competitive at school, club and Masters regattas.

As well as success on the water, the club is known for its strong sense of community off the water. We host a range of social events throughout the year, and the historic clubhouse itself is regularly hired out for a range of non-rowing functions.

Row for us

We welcome experienced rowers as well as those completely new to the sport, with members ranging in age from those beginning high school through to those who are still rowing in their 80s.

The main part of the season runs from 1 August through to 31 March, with many squads training over the winter as well.

If you would like to row for Wellington Rowing Club, you can register directly or contact the Club Captain in the first instance to discuss what’s involved.

We also offer non-rowing memberships for supporters to be involved, and for WRC alumni to stay connected with the club after their rowing career has finished.

Functions

The club is housed in an historic building on the Wellington waterfront, just a few minutes’ walk from the CBD.

The function room upstairs offers stunning views across the waterfront and Wellington harbour in one direction, and back across Frank Kitts Lagoon towards the city in the other.

We regularly hire out the function room for weddings, conferences, team building days, pop-up shops, and as a logistics hub for some of the major events located on the waterfront outside.

Support us

We are a registered charity and we rely on community grants, donations, bequests and sponsorships to supplement the subscriptions paid by our members.

A major part of this funding goes towards maintaining and upgrading our boats, oars, safety boats and land-based training equipment. But we also invest a considerable amount in maintaining our historic building as well as providing opportunities for financially disadvantaged rowers to enter and continue with the sport.

To find out more about supporting the club financially, contact our Fundraising Officer.

We are deeply grateful to these organisations for their support of Wellington Rowing Club.
