Sam Seath Obituary

It is with great sadness that we let you know that Sam Seath, our WRC President for the 2019/20 season, passed away peacefully at the Mary Potter Hospice on the 31st January.

We are so sad to have lost a true friend and rowing crew mate - someone who found the sport of rowing as a Master through the Corporate Challenge, and truly gave it her all.

Sam joined us 7 years ago, starting with the Marsden Mum's squad, and then went on to complete her novice season. She was an integral part of the Masters squad and was engaged in the Club in many ways. She coached Corporate crews, was Secretary on the Committee for a number of seasons, and was appointed to the first WRC Board in 2015. She was elected WRC President in 2019 and served in that role until she stood down due to ill-health in September 2020. Sam's input on the Board was invaluable - as an experienced director and Chartered Accountant, she had an excellent overview of all Wellington Rowing Club matters.

The Masters group will sorely miss an always smiling Sam, someone who offered encouragement and words of motivation, jumped in a boat with everyone and was happy to turn her hand to anything that was needed.

Our love and thoughts are with her husband Jim, and her three daughters Holly, Jessica and Kiera.

Funeral arrangements are being made and details will follow.

Here is Sam at a Masters regatta (second from right).
