Wellington wins the Norton and Queen's Cup

After the disappointment of cancellations through the winter, it was great to see the WRA adding in a delay-day for the Norton Cup so crews could put their winter training to the test. The regatta was held over the weekend at Korokoro in windy conditions. What looked like a nice calm course was actually very choppy at the start and the 1k line.

Despite the weather and early lead from Star Boating Club, Wellington managed to pull out a win over rivals Star Boating Club, Porirua and Petone and take home the Norton Cup. Strong crews were observed across all grades with WRC claiming fifteen  first places, eighteen second, and fourteen third places.

At the end of the regatta the WRA held the annual Queen's cup mixed eight event, which had been cancelled at the start of the month. The cup was won for the third year in a row. The eight consisted of Holly Miller, Elizabeth Pittman, Liam McArthur, Tom Bone, Sean O'Connor, Connor Austin, Tracey Bates, Verity Taylor and Ella Greenslade (cox).
