Erin Hill won the Coxswain of the Year award, Warrick Fowlie the Coach of the Year and Ross Baker, the club's Treasurer, took home the Administrator of the Year award.

Charles Graham was the club's nominee for the Most Promising Rower (which was awarded to Joseph Trappitt from Star) and Mike Grace was the nominee for the Rower of the Year (which was awarded to Ben Norling of Petone).

Congratulation to all winners and nominees.

Congratulations to Laurie Counsell
Congratulations to club stalwart Laurie Counsell on being awarded a "Blue Coat", the Rowing New Zealand Service Award, at the NZ Rowing Association AGM on Saturday 19th May. The Service Award is awarded for 10 years of service to a local Rowing Association, with Laurie's contributions to the Wellington Rowing Association earning him this recognition.
Prizegiving 2007
Prize winners for the 2006-07 season are as follows:

Congratulations to all prize winners!

Maadi Cup 2007
The Club's secondary school rowers finished the season off with the Maadi Cup held at Lake Karapiro from 26-31 March. The regatta, the largest in the southern hemisphere and the largest schools sporting event in NZ, attracted almost 2000 rowers from 106 schools. Despite the intense competition, Wellington Rowing Club schools fared well, with 2 crews making A finals, 16 crews in B finals and 4 top 10 placings.

The club's best result was a 5th placing in the A final for the Onslow College Boys U15 8+. The Onslow College Boys U17 2x of Tobias Wehr-Candler and Tufi Sele also achieved a top 10 placing, winning their B final. Onslow crews achieved a number of other B finals in both the boys and girls events.

The other A final finish for the Club's schools was the St Pats crew of Charles Graham and Sam Argue, placing 7th in the hotly contested boys U18 2x. St Pats crews also made B finals in the U18 4x+ (narrowly missing out on a top 10 placing) and the U18 Novice 4+.

Sameul Marsden achieved a great result, placing 2nd in the B final of the Girls U16 8+, to give them a top 10 placing in that event. Marsden crews also made B finals in the Girls U18 2- and the Girls U18 Novice 4+.

St Mary's also achieved some good results, finishing 5th in the B final of the Girls U15 4+ and 7th in the B final of the Girls U18 2-.

Congratulations to all crews on the finish of another great season.

National Champs 2007
Another season has ended for the club's adult rowers, with the trip south to Lake Ruataniwha for the 2007 National Champs (20th-24th February). The club's rowers managed to achieve some great results, with 9 crews making finals.

The best result was a bronze medal to the Mens Senior 4- of Paul Moreno, Dave Campbell, Mike Grace and Matt Perry. The senior men's squad also managed 5th place in the Mens Senior 8+, and 8th in the Mens Senior 4x. Members of that squad also combined with some of the club level rowers to achieve 7th place in the Mens Club 8+.

In the Women's events, the best result was the four of Kirstin Howard, Tracey Preston, Stephanie Arlaud and Cherly Dudfield (coxed by Michael Dessoulavy) narrowly missing out on the medals with a 4th placing in the Women's Club 4+. In the Club 8+ Wellington had two crews make the final, with the Club Women's squad finishing in 6th and the Novice Women in 8th place. The Women's Novice squad also made both finals of the novice events, finishing 5th in the Women's Novice 8+ and 7th in the Women's Novice 4+. In the Women's Senior 4- the Wellington crew finished 8th.

Congratulations to all crews on the finish of another successful season. If anyone has any photos from Nationals that they would like to see put up on this website please send them to webmaster@wellingtonrowing.org.nz.

North Island Champs 2007
The Club travelled to Karapiro to take on the rest of the North Island at the NI Champs on the 10th and 11th of February. The best result was the Mens Senior 4x- taking out 2nd place in the A final of that event. The Senior Men's squad also just missed out on the medal placings in the Senior 8+ and Senior 4- A finals, coming 4th in both races. In the Women's events the Senior Women's squad also achieved some near-misses in A finals, placing 4th in the Senior 4- and 5th in the Senior 2-. All crews will obviously be putting in the hard yards between now and NZ Champs to make it into those top spots!
Wanganui Champs 2007
The Wanganui Champs were held on the Wanganui River on the 3rd of February. The Novice Women's squad achieved some great results, winning the Novice 8+, and splitting into two fours to take out 1st and 3rd in the Novice 4+. Other good results were 1st in the Mens Club 4x+ and 2nd in the Mens Senior 4-.
KRI2 Regatta 2007
A large Wellington contingent travelled up to Lake Karapiro for the KRI2 regatta on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th January 2007. While results weren't as good as initially hoped for, there were still a number of positive A and B final finishes. The best of the bunch were the Senior Mens squad, taking out 4th place in the A finals of the Premier 4-, Premier 4x and Senior 4-, and the Club Women coming in 4th place in the Club 8+. Some notable finishes in B finals were 2nd placings in the Mens Club 4x+ and the Womens Novice 8+.
Wellington are the Wellington Champs!
Wellington Rowing Club finished the last of the local regattas on a high, taking out the Wellington Champs held on Saturday 16th December. The list of placings achieved is almost too large to squeeze on this webpage, so here is a taste of the gold medal performances: Medals were given out, as well as a number of trophies. Congratulations to all crews involved in a great regatta.
Marlborough Champs 2006
A Wellington contingent travelled down to the Wairau River in Blenheim for the Marlborough Champs on 9th-10th December. Some good placings were achieved in the A finals of the Premier events, with the Womens Prem 2- taking 2nd, the Womens Prem 4+ 3rd and the Mens Prem 4+ 3rd.
Jury Cup 2006
Jury Cup was cancelled today (December 12 2006). But conditions look good for some rowing in Wellington this weekend, with light southerlies predicted for Saturday and light northerlies for Sunday. This follows the cancellation of Norton Cup on the Wellington Harbour and several high river reports on the Wanganui - the Senior men cancelled two training camps in Wanganui because of river conditions. The Senior men were also looking forward to racing the Summer squad guys and the Waikato and Central RPC crews. Having lost 2 members of the WRC winter training squad to the Central RPC, the remaining members of the Senior men are enthusiatic to show that rowing in Wellington is as good as Wanganui or Blenhiem.
Queen's Cup Regatta 2006
The Queen's Cup was held at Korokoro on Saturday 11th November. The Wellington weather was not very accomodating, and the regatta was eventually called off early, but it was enough for Wellington to win the overall regatta easily from Star and Petone. The Senior Men continued their impressive form this season, taking out the Open 2-, Open 4-, Open 8+ and Open 4x-. The Novice Women also had some great results, with 1st and 3rd in the Novice 4+ and 2nd and 3rd in the Novice 8+.
Porirua Goodwill Regatta 2006
Wellington Rowing Club won the Porirua Goodwill Regatta, making it 2 out of 3 for the club this season. Though the regatta was competed in very difficult conditions there were some promising results, with the number 2 Open Men's 8 (largely schoolboys) finishing only a length behind the number 1 Open Men's 8 (largely the Inter-Provincial crew) and taking second overall! The club also had wins in the Women's Open 8 and Mens Under 19 8, as well as a number of other 1st, 2nd and 3rd placings across the open, club, under 19 and novice ranks.
National Inter-Provincial Championships 2006
The national inter-provincial championships held on Lake Hood provided some great conditions for racing and Wellington had several good performances: This looks especially good for our Open Men's squad which will continue to compete this season largely unchanged.
Open Day 2006
The club held its opening day on Sunday 17 September. The water conditions were not wonderful so the planned flotilla of boats did not eventuate. But some intensive erg racing and in excess of 100 people in a tug-o-war kept everybody happily occupied (until the rope broke!). Club president and double Olympic champion, Dick Joyce, officially named the club's new boats and then proposed a toast to a successful rowing season.
Mothes Shield 2006
After making the trip up to Levin for the Mothes Shield on Saturday 16th September, only to be greeted by white caps and rugged conditions, the regatta was shifted back to Korokoro where it was raced over 2km. The late start meant not all races were completed, which turned out to be bad news for Wellington, with the club finishing the regatta 2nd to Petone by only 6 points.

Despite the overall result, there were some great individual results. Highlights were the senior mens squad cleaning up in the open events, with 1st in the quad and eight; 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the pair; 1st and 3rd in the double; 1st and 2nd in the coxless four; and 2nd and 3rd in the single. Other great results were 1st placings in the womens club and open eights, and 1st in the mens club eight. more...

Redding Shield 2006
Wellington made a winning start to the season, taking out the Redding Shield. The regatta was held over a 750m course at Korokoro on Saturday 2nd September.

The regatta was held in conjunction with the Corporate Regatta. Truebridge Calendar Beach won the Men's, Mixed and overall trophies, with the Women's trophy going to Electricity Commission.

Wanganui Long Distance 8.06km
Several WRC club squads have been vacationing on the lovely Wanganui River, with such rowing vacations timed to synchronize with the Small boat regattas held on the Wanagnui River. The Open men have been performing well in the previous regattas, but victory (based on prognostic times) has eluded the men's squad. However, in difficult conditions the WRC Open men's squad 4- triumphed over a strong Aramaho-Wanganui based Wanganui IP 4- to take the fastest time and best prognostic. Also pleasing was that the 2nd four from the WRC Open Men's squad was not far behind taking 4th overall. more...
Manawatu Grunt: A Great Start to the 2006-07 Season
The Manawatu Grunt was held at Lake Horowhenua on Sunday 23rd July, and Wellington rowers achieved some great results.

Taking top honours was our coxed four (James Little, Dougal MacDuff, Michael Grace, Jerome Chapman, Cox: Erin Hill) from the WRC Open Men's squad, who blitzed the field in the 5km regatta in a time of 21.58mins. Second place was another coxed four from our Open Men's squad (David Campbell, Nick Dudley, Martin Keogh, Dan McCormick, Cox: Jodey Mason), with a time of 23.55mins, with the Wellington men's pair (Mikkel Nielsen, Simon Manawaiti) third at 25.50mins.

Participation was also very high from our club at this regatta, with the crews on the water taking out 5 of the top 10. Congratulations to everyone who participated! more...
